Trail: join the numbers in order and cover every square

Goal

Draw a single path that starts at 1, joins the numbers in order and goes through every square on the board exactly once.

How to play

  1. Start at 1 and join the numbers in order, up to the last one.
  2. The path must pass through every square exactly once.
  3. Drag from the head of the path (you can also tap a square next to it to advance).
  4. To go back, slide over your own trail.
  5. "Undo" takes back a step and "Start over" (asks for confirmation) clears the trail.
  6. When the path is complete, a light runs along the whole trail.

Key rules

  • Each puzzle has only one correct path (unique solution).
  • The more numbers on the board, the easier it is (they show where the path goes); days with few numbers are the hardest.
  • Numbers must be visited in order; you can't skip one or step on a square twice.
  • There are no lives or maximum tries: you can't lose.
  • It's the same puzzle in every language.

Scoring and rewards

  • Daily puzzle: 14 loopies (each hint takes 2 off, minimum 6) + speed bonus (up to +4; reference: 2.5 seconds per square of the board).
  • Infinite mode: 10 loopies (each hint takes 2 off, minimum 4) + speed bonus (up to +2). Stars by hints: 0 → 3, 1-2 → 2, 3 or more → 1.
  • Every loopie also gives 1 XP.
  • Hint: if your trail has strayed from the solution, it goes back to where it was right; otherwise it advances one square (2 loopies; "Free hint" by watching an ad takes nothing off).

Modes and difficulty

daily puzzle (Monday to Wednesday 6×6, Thursday to Sunday 7×7; with a minimum number of clues on the board that changes by day: Monday 11, Tuesday 9, Wednesday 2, Thursday 14, Friday 11, Saturday and Sunday 2), infinite mode (from 5×5 to 8×8, with fewer numbers as you progress) and archive. Same in every language.

Tips

  1. Start by joining nearby numbers: short stretches are the easiest to get right.
  2. Corner squares only have two neighbours: they tell you where the path has to go.
  3. If you get stuck, slide back over your trail instead of starting over.

Frequently asked questions

How do I go back?

Slide your finger over your own trail again, or use "Undo".

Do I have to cover every square?

Yes, every one and only once; the path ends at the last number.

What does the hint do?

If you've strayed, it takes you back to where you were right; otherwise it advances one square. It costs 2 loopies except the free hint.

How long it takes

A game usually takes about 2 minutes. This is a rough estimate.
